TANUKICHAN MAKE BELIEVE

Bay Area musician Hannah van Loon who performs as Tanukichan, releases a hazy pop song 'Make Believe' with frequent collaborator, Toro Y Moi's Chaz Bear on his Company Records label. In its just under 3 minute run time 'Make Believe' manages to create a distinctly nostalgic atmosphere with melodic guitar lines, fuzzy bass and ethereal vocals, its a succinct indie pop song with elements of shoegaze and dream pop. Lyrically the song is a clear rejection of the spiritual, an acceptance of a lack of faith and how for Hannah there is great value in that: “This song’s sentiment is ‘fuck religion, fuck belief, fuck believing in the future. I am so over people with spiritual inclinations or beliefs trying to convince me that things you can’t see are real, or that there is god out there to believe in. It’s an empowering feeling to me to accept that. I don’t believe in anything, but I’ll show you what I can do.” -Toby Evans-Jesra
